Desert Delights

In which we explore several disparate but decidedly delightful desert displays.   Come!  Let the dreamy dance of the desert muse begin!

Sonoran desert
decorated by prickles
conserves its beauty
desert dwelling birds
fly high into prickles
create domiciles
ancient rock towers
above the verdant valley
to glorious sky

  1. Cactus is so fascinating on how it grows. Beautiful photos Margaret!

  2. It is such a beautiful place and you've captured it perfectly along with the lovely skies! Marvelous captures! Thanks for sharing the beauty with us! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  3. The desert looks so beautiful! Zion NP is in my "to go" list! Thanks for the glimpse of its wonders!

  4. Amazing shots. That cactus in the middle photo is a work of art!

  5. Yes, we love that one in the middle too!

  6. your catcus and sky combo is quite a sight, thanks for sharing

  7. Amazing cacti!!! I especially love the second photo...what a cool cactus! And the rock towers! My hubby and I had a layover in Salt Lake City, Utah and we were in awe with the mountain range formations that we could see from the airport. I lived and graduated in Alamogordo, NM, and I remember the cactus and mountains around where we lived.

    Blessings & Aloha!
I had yesterday and today off from work, so I hope to get caught up on some blog reading. Thank you so much for stopping by and for making it through my very long novel of a post! With working outside the home, trying to be sure I return those that visit my blog, and yet not find myself permanently attached to the computer, I barely manage to get one post up a week, so my posts tend to be long...those reasons, as well as my natural tendency to be long-winded when writing! :o)

  8. I LOVE the desert. That's why we moved to Tucson from Memphis almost 13 years ago. And I love my Catalina mountains. This is a very peaceful place for me.

  9. The cactus (the second photo) is awesome!! I like how you captured all of those little twists within the plant.

  10. What great texture and detail in that second one!!!

  11. Oh my! Is that what cacti look like in their natural habitat? Amazing!
    Best wishes,

  12. Beautiful pictures and I love the alliteration! Excellent D post.

  13. Well fancy that! Joey's preschool theme this week is the desert, and the letter D! Thanks for all those delightful D words!

Great photos of cacti too. My big brother lives in AZ, and has been known at times to be a prick. ha! So your post has reminded me of him. (Good thing he doesn't read your blog! Lil sis would get a butt-whoopin' for that one. hehe.)

Off to drink a glass of water. :)

  14. Wow! Great shots and captions too! Thanks for stopping over and commenting!

  15. love the pic of Zion! How beautiful is that! {:-D

  16. It's hard for someone like me, addicted to green landscapes, to imagine the desert could be so beautiful, but it is, and your photos show off that beauty wonderfully!

  17. love the cactus and the birds...the balance of delicate and prickly! Nice work. Thanks for hopping by. :-)

  18. I didn't realise there was so much beauty in the dessert.
I like the line decorated by prickles. Great.

  19. beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.

  20. I have never been a desert lover. I didn't ever think it had much beauty. Those photos just changed my mind. Breathtaking!

  21. Never having visited a desert, I was captivated by your cats shots...and that cliff is something else. Both a lovely and interesting post. Thanks for your visit to my blog. Please come again.

  22. Love the photos from the desert, we don´t have deserts in Sweden so it´s exciting for me. :)

  23. I havent been to Zion yet....maybe someday...We hope to take out little vintage trailer there to camp.
The second cactus is so beautiful.....I love how it grows....

  24. Oh, cactus! That's a real nice picture.

  25. Beautiful pictures. I always adore Boyce Thompson, too.

I am fascinated by the architectural quality of cacti.

Your pictures really illustrated that wonderfully.

    Thanks for linking to Alphabe-Thursday.

  26. What gorgeous photos. Deserts are so fascinating.

  27. I recognized these images immediately as I spend my winters in Arizona in the Sonoran desert! I always visit the Botanical gardens at least a few times while there!During the months of
Jan-Apr. I will be posting all about the Sonoran desert!
