WATCHING
Oliver peeks at me slanty-eyed hoping I won't disturb his sun puddle napping.
LEAFY
Nasturtiums spill over the edge of a ceramic pot on my deck.
FIRST WORLD PROBLEM
I got a "smart" phone earlier this year. I still have a lot to learn. Recently I got the instagram app, and what fun that is! I still have a lot to learn. My daughter (the wine rep) installed the delectable app which tracks wine you like and does so many amazing things. I still have pretty much everything to learn about that. so much technology! so many ways to connect! But still, how connected are we? What about simply enjoying nature and talking (by mouth!) to family and friends?
STILL
still life: a little snap of a detail of one of my terrariums. The tiny mushrooms are fun and glow in the dark. I got them on etsy HERE. Usually the photos I post are straight out of the camera. For this one I had fun playing with some editing on picmonkey.
A GOOD DAY
On Friday evening, a few family members came over for dinner. My son's girlfriend brought me these lovely flowers. (I did a little editing on this one, too.)

REFLECTION
Edge of my house, deck, hydrangeas, and woods are reflected in the side panel of a car parked in my driveway.
INSIDE YOUR FRIDGE
a bowl of sliced heirloom tomatoes ( and yes, the green ones ARE ripe!) and a bowl of organic apples from my CSA. See the edge of the pizza box on the right? leftovers from Sunday lunch with our son, his girlfriend, and her parents. (Ashley says Felicity loves the mustard container. She is a girl after my own heart! We are big fans of mustard, too! There's a mustard container barely visible in back of the apples.)
DAILY ROUTINE
playing with Oliver! (Trying to get him to pose for a photo is nearly impossible!)
MORNING
I love tea, especially green tea. (no coffee for this girl!)

FAVORITE COLOR
I love green. But I love blue, too. After taking photos of a number of things, this is the one that made my post. It is an echinacea flower bud. (I started echinaceas a long time ago from seed and have kept these plants and their progeny for many years.)
SUNFLARE
It was to the archives for this one, taken during a hike on Whiteside Mountain near Highlands, NC, in October, 2012. (There's even a tiny rainbow--middle left.)
EXPRESSION
Have you ever tried to get a cat to pose? yeah, right! I tried enticing Oliver with several things. Was he interested? Did he hold still? It was finally the screwdriver that captivated him. See, he's intently reaching for it.
STICKY
Flower pollen is very sticky.
Thank you, Linda, for encouraging me to post this week! Linda just participated in SHS for the first time!

This week it's open hunt, photographer's choice.
My husband and I went on a short trip to visit our daughter in Cashiers, North Carolina. We stopped in Knoxville, Tennessee on the way. All photos except the phone were taken in Knoxville near Market Square.

HOME OR THANKFUL
I am thankful for many, many things, for I've been richly blessed in my life.
Waldorf salad is a dish we serve only at Thanksgiving. This salad was a Thanksgiving tradition in my family when I was growing up and I've carried it on through the years. It reminds me of times past and of people no longer with us. I am thankful that my children and their significant others were gathered 'round this Thanksgiving and that we had so much fun together.
IN THE KITCHEN
My daughter and I cooked up a storm! literally! We made a variety of truffles, sticky buns, nut cookies (above), and pastel cream wafers. This was, of course, in addition to the amazing amount of dishes made for the Thanksgiving feast itself-- cooked by me, my daughter, and my daughter's boyfriend. I should add here that my son cooked us a delicious Mexican feast Sunday night.
COUPLE
kitties who came to play--Tigra and Bunkie, my daughter's kitties, had quite an adventurous time with places to explore and resident cats to contend with. I made all 4 cats catnip toys--pieces of sweater stuffed completely with catnip. Oh the flipping and flopping! the chewing and kicking! These were the most fun ever! We found that they all liked playing with small branches, too. Who knew?!
BUBBLES
Shingleback sparkling shiraz from Mclaren Vale. mmmm! This was imbibed while making some of the above cookies.
TREES
My husband, daughter, and I visited the Cincinnati Art Museum on Saturday. I liked these lit-up trees against the frosted backdrop of bare-branched trees and the reflection in the mirrored panel on the right. The inside trees glow with warmth and cheer in contrast to their surroundings. serenity.

NATURE
Whimsically (or so it seems), we're having temperatures in the high 60s today. This is a portion of the Little Miami River that I travel past often. Because of the light today, scenery is somewhat muted. I think this gives an overall serene feel.
VINTAGE/RETRO
I was looking for something vintage to photograph and found this nut chopper that once belonged to my mother.
WHIMSICAL
I was having fun taking photos in the car wash today. (Everyone does this, right?!) I think the pattern created by water on glass with trees and bushes in the background is whimsical.
COOKING
We got a brand spanking new stove yesterday! woo hoo! I had to try it out. Here I'm making sauce to top noodles.
WEEK'S BEST
Who knows if this is the best photograph I took all week. It is, however, a favorite, being as it's of a very special kitty--Oliver.
