Here are a few kitty photos taken with my iPhone.

It's very difficult to photograph a black cat, and this is just an iPhone photo.  This is Edward Bunk aka Bunkie (my daughter's cat)  His eyes are yellow, but in some lights they look turquoise.

Tigra (my daughter's kitty is full of personality.  Her love of food is unparalleled!)

ZESTY

Meet Tigra, my daughter's kitty.  lover of rubber bands, catnip, people food, exploring, anything that's a circle, birdie watching, and people, too!  She has an enthusiastic love of life!  Here she is-- still for 3 seconds while I quickly snap her picture with my phone.

Oliver never was a lap kitty, till...we purchased new chairs for our library (more on that someday).  Now it's funny how he'll jump up on the chair and even onto my lap probably because there's not much room for his chunky mus-coo-lar body between me and the arm of the chair.

3 Boys and a Girl

Oliver and Earnest are the resident cats.

Tigra and Bunkie came to play at Thanksgivingtime. 

Even though they met a few years ago when Tigra and Bunkie were 3 months old, they were a bit wary of each other at first.  However, they did provide mutal entertainment.  There's nothing like something new going on to captivate a cat! 

They bonded over all the cool toys provided like these wonderful little branches.  (Do you know how difficult it is to photograph a black cat who is constantly in motion?!)  Here Edward Bunk is intent upon capturing the stick. 

The red puff ball is momentarily forgotten as the waving stick comes into view.

We gave them catnip, special treats (like tuna), and even made them toys out of rectangles of old sweater sewn together and filled with catnip.

The 5½ days that Tigra and Bunkie were visiting were so much fun.  After they left, the resident cats spent their day in recovery!

They lay in the glorious sun resting and napping.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

HOME OR THANKFUL 

I am thankful for many, many things, for I've been richly blessed in my life.  
Waldorf salad is a dish we serve only at Thanksgiving.  This salad was a Thanksgiving tradition in my family when I was growing up and I've carried it on through the years.  It reminds me of times past and of people no longer with us.  I am thankful that my children and their significant others were gathered 'round this Thanksgiving and that we had so much fun together.


IN THE KITCHEN 

My daughter and I cooked up a storm!  literally!  We made a variety of truffles, sticky buns, nut cookies (above), and pastel cream wafers.  This was, of course, in addition to the amazing amount of dishes made for the Thanksgiving feast itself-- cooked by me, my daughter, and my daughter's boyfriend.  I should add here that my son cooked us a delicious Mexican feast Sunday night.

 

COUPLE 

kitties who came to play--Tigra and Bunkie, my daughter's kitties, had quite an adventurous time with places to explore and resident cats to contend with.  I made all 4 cats catnip toys--pieces of sweater stuffed completely with catnip.  Oh the flipping and flopping!  the chewing and kicking!  These were the most fun ever!  We found that they all liked playing with small branches, too.  Who knew?!  



BUBBLES 

Shingleback sparkling shiraz from Mclaren Vale.   mmmm!  This was imbibed while making some of the above cookies.


TREES

My husband, daughter, and I visited the Cincinnati Art Museum on Saturday.  I liked these lit-up trees against the frosted backdrop of bare-branched trees and the reflection in the mirrored panel on the right.  The inside trees glow with warmth and cheer in contrast to their surroundings.  serenity.

Young

In May and June 2011, we re-nested 3 baby barred owls in our backyard.  This is the first owl, named Barry by the neighborhood children.

In June 2011 we watched a robin build a nest and lay eggs.  One baby hatched.  See the baby's development HERE.

While driving in Kootenay National Park in Canada this Summer, we saw a mama and a baby moose blithely eating vegetation by the side of the road.

right!

So we want to snap their portraits, natch.

Problem:  How do you get a cat to pose?

"What is it you are expecting of me?"  says Oliver  (to himself:  "If treats are involved, I may grace you with a cursory glance.")

"And now what?  We're very busy checking out the air flowing from this grate."  say Oliver and Earnest

"I have sites to see and smells to smell, but I will stop for a quick snap because I'm a very loving kitty," thinks Huck, the farm cat.

"Oh hi.  We're rather busy.  We were napping you see.  But we'll look up because we love you since you bring us catnip and lots of fun toys.  You play with us a lot, too."  say Bunkie and Tigra (my daughter's kitties)

Earnest loves to sleep in the middle of the stairs!  (that way he doesn't miss anything!  He's deaf.) 

Oliver and Earnest seriously sleeping.  Sun puddle snoozing is an art in this house.  As the sun moves across the floor, so do the cats!

Kitties Who Came to Play

Tigra and Edward Bunk came to play at our house over Thanksgiving!

My daughter's sweet kitty Cy disappeared a few months ago (Asheville Kitty).  She adopted these two kitties from a shelter about a month ago when they were about 8 weeks old.  We had so much fun with them!  Oliver and Earnest, our 8 year old cats were not thrilled by their visit, but were polite for the most part.

CasbahKitten:  wonderful kitty toys!   I learned about these toys from Beaded Tail, who blogs about her kitties and dog.

Happy Thanksgiving!

 

Two little kitties have come to play at our house for Thanksgivng!  Meet Tigra and Edward Bunk.  They are adorable 3 month olds who love to gallop about the house and jump everywhere.  My two cats are very skeptical of these visitors.   The little kitties will run up to them and touch noses--very cute.
