mystery plant

This plant was found growing out of my compost pile. It remains a mystery.
See the very huge, dark green leaves?
And here is the start of a fruit.
Anyone know what this is???!

  1. It looks like a summer squash plant, or at least in the squash family. Nice healthy looking plant.

  13. definitely a pumpkin - especially if it has large orange flowers with 5 petals. :)

some of the flowers will have the fruit under it - those are the female flowers. others won't have them - those are male flowers. you (or bees / insects if you're lucky) have to pollinate the female flowers with the male flowers (get a bit of the powder on a q-tip & put it on the females) in order for the pumpkins to grow. :)

my dad always planted pumpkins in his large garden. :)
