Water in its myriad forms, colors, strengths, and settings is such a compelling substance.  Below are just a few of these.

Takakkaw Falls, Yoho National Park, Canada

The water, which is fed by the Daly Glacier of the Waputik Icefield, falls about 1260 ft (384 m) making it one of the highest falls in Canada.  Takakkaw means "magnificent" in Cree.

gorgeous Mount Edith Cavell

 

In September 2013, my husband and I hiked the Mount Edith Cavell trail to Cavell Pond in Jasper National Park, Canada.  It is a short, easy hike at 11,033ft (3,363 m) elevation.  The views along the way are spectacular!

There are several glaciers visible on the North face of the mountain.  Angel Glacier (above) forms in a bowl or cirque.  The glacier flows downward.  Some of the ice breaks over the vertical cliffs forming the angel's wings.  Because of the constant movement, this is an avalanche area.  We did see several while we were here and heard their resounding BOOMS!

I love the patterns, colors, and shapes of the plants, lichens, and rocks.  stunning decoration!

If you look very carefully in the middle of the photograph, you will see a person in blue.   This will give you an idea of the scale.

Cavell Pond is just below Cavell Glacier.  Ghost Glacier is the highest snow area above on the left.  In August, 2012, a very large chunk (equivalent to 1428 city buses) of Ghost Glacier broke off and avalanched down the mountain into Cavell Pond causing a tsunami that closed trails and the parking lot.  (video link below)

Back to the beginning of the trail, Cavell Lake can be seen in the distance, a gorgeous turquoise blue due to the suspension of glacial flour.

Roadside Views

When traveling, I like to take photos from the moving car-- "drive by shootings."  This way I can remember the flavor of a place not just the special views.
I offer you a few from my recent trip to the Canadian Rockies in early September this year.  
Oh, and by the way, just in case you were wondering, I'm NOT driving at the time!

turquoise Lake Louise

Indescribably gorgeous, Lake Louise is an iconic symbol of the beauty of Banff National Park in Canada.

I will be writing more about this lake at a later date.  My husband and I hiked the Plain of the Six Glaciers Trail (which is in the back middle of this photograph) just below Victoria Glacier, now one of my all-time favorite hikes.  The beauty along this trail is stunning.

Waterfowl Lake

a beautiful lake along the Icefields Parkway in Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies.   The water is a lovely turquoise to seafoam green even on this cloudy day.  In early September most flowers have gone to seed and the greens are touched with gold.

a beautiful spot where my husband and I shared a picnic lunch on a previous visit.  I love this small clump of aspens.  Peeking through the trunks are mountains.

Bow Lake

Bow Lake lies along the Bow River in the beautiful Canadian Rockies of Banff National Park.  Even on this cloudy day, the waters are gorgeous turquoise (due to glacial flour).  Crowfoot Glacier (seen above) supplies water to the Bow River.  (Glaciers in the Bow River Valley supply a fraction of water to the river, snowmelt being the largest contributor.)
