Meet Tigra, my daughter's kitty.  lover of rubber bands, catnip, people food, exploring, anything that's a circle, birdie watching, and people, too!  She has an enthusiastic love of life!  Here she is-- still for 3 seconds while I quickly snap her picture with my phone.

Oliver never was a lap kitty, till...we purchased new chairs for our library (more on that someday).  Now it's funny how he'll jump up on the chair and even onto my lap probably because there's not much room for his chunky mus-coo-lar body between me and the arm of the chair.

Calibration

For the 8th year, Dogwood Arts' Art in Public Places Knoxville presents its show in and around Krutch Park.  I've been privileged to see several of these sculpture exhibits.  Walking around the little city park is a delight with its sculptures, water features, gardens, and benches.

Calibration by Luke Achterberg won first place in this year's show.

This is really a "bad" photo, but I edited it every so slightly and decided I liked it for its ethereal, dreamlike quality.  It also gives a small idea of what the park looks like.  Calibration seems to be floating. 


PS: These photos were taken one week ago in Knoxville.  See how filled out the trees are?  The leaves are just beginning to appear where I live 270 miles north.

Krutch Park

Krutch Park is a beautiful one acre park located in downtown Knoxville, Tennessee.  The park features beautiful plantings and a flowing stream.  Changing exhibitions of sculptures are placed throughout the park.  Visitors can enjoy this lovely space by resting on benches, having a picnic, or simply wandering.
The sculpture in the background is Stargazer by Ray Katz.  It is constructed of welded and brushed aluminum for $40,000.

I planted bush beans in pots on my deck this year!  These are the flowers of a purple variety.

On the Indiana University campus, this squirrel ran up a small tree and kindly posed for me.  He has a very long tail.  I believe this is an Indiana fox squirrel (Sciurus niger).

two tower trees:  In the 1870s a tree was noticed growing from the Greensburg, Indiana Courthouse.  Over the years a series of trees have sprouted, thrived, and subsequently died.  No definitive explanation exists as to how the seeds have germinated in the tower.  No one knows how the trees have survived 110 feet above the ground.  The current large tree has been identified as a mulberry.

a special party

5 years cancer-free!   That was the occasion for the celebration in Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park.  My friends and I wanted to rejoice over a benchmark in the life of another special friend.  This was the perfect setting for a party. 

We created a vignette under the shade of a trio of trees, first by laying down a quilt "floor," then by setting a low table with linens.  Our seats were pillows.  Flowers, delicious home~made food, and mimosas completed the picture.  Next to each place was a keepsake vintage glass filled with soil and an angel wing begonia.

After our luncheon, we wandered through some of the beautiful 265 acres of meadows, rolling hills, woods, and gardens.  We enjoyed taking photos of the wonderful (world class) sculptures and gorgeous landscapes.

We ended our celebration in another area of the park, with dessert cookies and tea.  a perfect day!

Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park, a non-profit organization located in SW Ohio, USA, was founded by Harry T. Wilks in 1996.  This park was touted as the "most beautiful natural setting of any art park in the country" by Atlantic Monthly.

"Our mission is the eventual establishment of a collection which will demonstrate the complete history of sculpture by mankind, making Pyramid Hill the only art park in the world working on the accomplishment. "
