garden serenity

Ambling around the grounds at the Cincinnati Civic Center a couple days ago, I came across this lovely pond.  The explosion of lush greeness and blooms in this city oasis was so soul refreshing.

a few more words!  note the beehive.  There are wall (or Lazarus) lizards sunning on the rock in the foreground.  These non natives were brought to Cincinnati in 1951 and released into a backyard.

dahlias

a few beautiful flowers from the dahlia garden at Finn Meadows Farm

Last Thursday, I walked around the dahlia garden at my friends' farm and was amazed at all the variations of stunning colors and designs of these flowers.  Some are only a couple inches across; some are as large as a dinner plate.

Garden

Yesterday, I took a spin around the yard, camera in hand.  I love to see what's blooming, who's visiting the flowers, and what edibles are ripening.

Orange double-flowered day lilies have begun blooming.

Pink lemonade blueberries are getting riper.

I love the combination of blue nigella next to yellow moonbean coreopsis.

Purple "green beans" are becoming larger, nearly ready to pick.  When cooked, the purple beans turn green.

Bees were delighting in the deliciousness of flower nectar.

Black raspberries have been ripening and must be picked before the birds find them.

an experiment this year--growing cucumbers in a pot on my deck.  Already baby fruits are forming!  This one is about the size of a little finger.

I love this color combination--so vibrant and summery!  chartreuse potato vine and bright pink brachyscome

loveliness

My friends have the most beautiful garden!

This pond with waterfall near the back of their yard is such a wonderful feature.
Recently, a few friends gathered here for dinner on the deck overlooking this loveliness.

xenial Sunny Point garden

Come on in!  Enter the delightful organic garden of Sunny Point Cafe in West Asheville, North Carolina!
"We celebrate the relationship between the kitchen and the garden…where food grows from a tiny seed and meets the knives of creative chefs, all within an acre…from spade to spoon."

Nestled within the garden are tables for gathering and play areas for kids.  In the foreground grows tall dinosaur kale.

Raised beds are full of herbs and vegetables.  There are even planters on the fences.

Situated in a residential area, neighborhood houses surround the gardens and cafe.

spoon and fork sculptures growing within the dandelion bed!

aah...so xenial!

Therefore,

Do you know what xenial means now?! *
