The End: Alphabet Soup

And so we come to the end of yet another odyssey with Alphabe-Thursday!  What a challenge it has been at times to come up with a creative post for the current letter of the alphabet.  I've enjoyed this journey with you, my readers and fellow Alphabe-Thursdayers, sharing our posts and lives.

Oregon

Here are a few random photos from a trip to Oregon in the past...

As we approach Crater Lake we can see smoke from fires in the distance.

 

Crater lake detail

Crater Lake is phenomenonally blue!  The blue light of sunlight can travel to great depths.  There it causes the electrons in water molecules to vibrate and re-radiate light in blue wavelengths. This amazing blue light that seems to glow is what we see.  Because of the fires and smoke in the area, the blue was not as vibrant.  I'm showing you 2 photos near the water's edge where the blue is pretty brilliant.

Oregon coast

I've been to Oregon a few times and believe it's one of the most beautiful places on Earth.  These are a few photos from a vacation in 2006, all from along Highway 101.

Boardman State Park

Dunes extend from Coos Bay north to Florence.  In places, the dunes extend inland as much as 2 1/2 miles.  Some are as high as 500 feet.  The Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area was set aside in 1972.  It encompassed 32,186 acres of dunes, forest, streams, and lakes.

We rented a dune buggy and had a blast!

I wish I knew exactly where some of these were taken.  If you do know, please tell me!

Oregon: SkyWatch Friday

Smoke fills most of the sky in the vicinity of Crater Lake in September 2006...

Due to many lightning strikes earlier in the year, fires are still burning in September and are "ecologically" being managed by the Park Service.  See a news article HERE.  Because of the hazy sky, it is impossible to see all the way across the lake.  Crater Lake's amazing blueness is visible only near the perimeter.

A gorgeous sunset fills the sky near the Rogue River and Medford.
